I liked it. Good videography, the city has a 6 figure budget to do this stuff, ha !! Mr. Foer’s bad jokes ( I mean that in a good way) are very funny when accompanied by a sight gag. Though I would have loved the segment to be more edgy and ridiculous in pointing out the bizarre nature of the Cohen’s distorted view of things, it was nice to get some boots on the ground to show that it really is not a bad space. Ego-driven Grandiosity is such an ugly quality in a Mayor.

Word on the street : lease will fail or Cohen will get an ad hoc committee together to buy more time and delay his ousting. ( ok, so I made that up)

I love Paul Foer! He’s never met a bridge he’s not willing to burn.

  4. Anastasia Hopkinson says:

GREAT reporting! Annapolis now has critical news reporting on civic matters. Interesting, provocative, enlightening!

  5. Victor says:

Paul……Great video. But what are your suggestions for the use of the Market House?

  6. Paul foer says:

The Market House could be just that–a market house, but with a tenant or tenants and a lease that makes economic sense for everyone involved. It could be, as I said in the video, a farmer’s market to be taken over by the outfit that already does it across the street. It could be like it was. It could even be Lehr Jackson’s vision, but with a proper lease.

The problem here is that we never did a proper request for proposals. Instead of saying we will do A, B and C and we are looking for a tenant to do X, Y and Z and they will get this but they will give us that and then grading and voting on those responses, we did an “audition”.

Cohen continues to say the building needs this work and that work and we have to pay for it….AND only Jackson is willing to take on the risk and therefore we have to give him this great lease…..NOT! There has to be a better way and a better process will show us that way.

    Thanks!

There is only one way to find eternal Market House life and salvation and it is by accepting Lehr as LandLord and saviour.

  8. Bill Kardash says:

well done, good observations by Paul. The only sensible vote for the Council is to reject THIS lease and issue an RFP immediately. Allow 30 days for RFP process and 30 days for selection. Forget the heavy-duty renovation. The place can be up and running by June and save tens of thousands (or hundreds of thousands?).

    Lapel mic.
Kill the Dylan. It’s very distracting. I was following right along until the Dylan got loud. Then all I got was someone is flying somewhere to vote on something and that was it.

  10. Yes and a month later with fine spring weather and no action as another tourist season goes by… One wonders what is the cost of an empty Markethouse to surrounding business?
